Movie: Lionheart Review

If you want to watch a movie so surreal that it feels like it is just you, watching from a distance, as a certain family goes to through hurdles to retain longevity, then you should see Lionheart.

In all hype and noise, Lionheart stands in the rubble, undeterred, whilst it goes ahead to break through clichés, stereotypes and the nerve jerking predictable story lines always churned out with few polishing.

So it is safe to say; I did not expect the ending.

I expected like a big BOOM where the protagonist Adaeze (Genevieve Nnaji) saves the day, but still the ending was very real life and a great moral lesson particularly for people in business.

Also I loved how they movie was able to incorporate how lives were ruined by the 'Change' in government. How people were are forced to make huge gambles just to stay afloat.

In all diamonds: the rubies, the topazes, the sapphires, the hyacinths, the crystals, the peridotes, the amethysts, the emeralds....

Lionheart is a Sapphire - Royalty.

A movie so richly told, without struggle.

All the actors were really great: Chibuzo Azubike (Phyno) and Peter Okoye being their first on screen performance (I stand to be corrected) played their roles like it was made just for them.

The legendary Pete Edochie and Onyeka Onwenu, the Amazon.

(I loved the Daddy's girl and Mommy's boy concept in the family)

Then Nkem Owoh was effortlessly hilarious!

Thankfully, the movie didn't tow the path of uncle with hidden agenda or juju uncle. If I saw Chinwetalu Agu I would have suspected that part, but Nkem Owoh has proven to be ruthless in a couple of movies so anything could have happened.

And I am glad it didn't.

I also loved that the movie was shot in Enugu and that most of the dialogues were in concentrated Igbo language, not Engli-Igbo.

I wish all viewers have an in depth knowledge of the language because the subtitles can never convey how powerful those proverbs and idioms resonated with me.

And the teasing was epic!

The dinning room scene was also very relatable.

My favorite quote from the movie 'The biggest legacy I will leave for posterity, is you; my daughter. You are the pendulum of my life, if you stop swinging then I am done. '

The movie is a 7.5/10 for me.

Now I want to use this medium to appreciate Genevieve Nnaji, I stan hard more than I ever did.

Genevieve is a 'babe and a babe and half'.
She knows her craft, she understands the art, she was born for this.
She is a natural in this game and I see her doing more winning more in the future.

Lionheart is a must see. Whether you visit the cinemas or you are subscribed to Netflix, please watch Lionheart.

Let's support our own! Especially when it a story beautifully and exquisitely told.
